Family garages in Birchwood are busy places, with kids ducking under the door and a bike wheel always somewhere near the track. We set the auto-reverse so it trips on a light touch, aim the photo-eyes properly, and make sure the door closes fully every time so the house stays secure behind it.

Garage door services

Pick the job, we handle it

People in Birchwood call about garage doors for many reasons, and we have a service for each: the door that stopped, the one that got loud, the one that lets in cold air, the remote that died, the panel that got dented, and the door that has simply had its day.

A phone call to us from Birchwood gets a real conversation, not a script. We ask about the door, suggest what might be going on, and arrange a visit. What we hold back is the number: that comes after the technician has stood in front of the door and measured what it needs.

2021 census · what it means at the door

  • 38%Homes of every age

About 38% of homes in Mississauga were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.

Mixed neighbourhoods often include renovated older houses with a new facade and a garage door that no longer suits it. Choosing a door that ties the renovation together, then installing it plumb and balanced in an older opening, is work we do regularly and enjoy.

  • 37%

Single-detached houses make up about 37% of homes in Mississauga (2021 Census).

In denser housing the garage door is frequently the main entrance to the home and sits close to the living space, so a door that closes fully and locks properly matters for security. We check the closing force, the lock and the opener's stored codes on every visit.

Garage Door Safety Inspection

During the power outage you pulled the red cord and tried to lift the door by hand. It felt like lifting a piano, and when you let go part-way it sank back toward the floor on its own.

Garage Door Safety Inspection

Short answers

(289) 724-5828

Is the inspection a repair visit?

It is a look and a record first. Small maintenance items such as lubrication, cleaning and aligning the photo eyes and tightening fasteners can be done on the spot if you wish. Anything involving spring tension, cables, drums, worn rollers or damaged sections is written up with a clear explanation and quoted as its own job, so you decide with the full picture in front of you.

How much room do you need in the garage on the day?

Enough to bring the new section in, lay it flat, and work at both tracks and the spring shaft. Moving vehicles out of the garage and clearing a metre or two along the walls where the tracks run makes the job smoother, as does clear access to the opener and the ceiling around the spring. Sections are handled by two people and are wider than the door opening, so a clear path from the driveway helps.

How long does a bottom seal last?

Several years is typical, with the range set by exposure. A door facing south or west, a threshold that is wet and salted all winter, and a seal that freezes to the floor a few times a season all shorten the life. A shaded door on a dry slab with a wipe of silicone each autumn can go much longer. The condition of the strip, rather than its age, is what to watch.

What information helps when I book the visit?

Whether the lock is an inside sliding bar, an outside T-shaped handle with a key, or both; whether the handle turns and whether anything moves when it does; whether the key goes in and turns; whether an opener is fitted and whether it has ever run with the lock engaged; the door's material and age; and whether you hold a key. A photo of the inside of the lock is useful.

What happens during the visit?

The opener is disconnected and the door clamped. The technician identifies the counterbalance type, inspects both cables, the drums, brackets, rollers, track and springs, and explains what is found. The springs are unloaded, the old cables removed, new ones fitted and set so the door is level, and the springs wound back. The door is then balanced by hand, the opener reconnected and its safety features tested while you watch.
